On May 20, the Rector of the University of Telecommunications and Post Prof. Dr. Miglena Temelkova and the Rector of the Ankara University Prof. Dr. Nejdet Yunyuvar signed a Memorandum of Cooperation between the two educational institutions at an official meeting at UTP.
The meeting was attended by the Vice-Rector of the Turkish University Prof. Dr. Hasan Serdar Öztürk, the Dean of the Faculty of Dental Medicine Prof. Dr. Kaan Orhan, the Dean of the Faculty of Communications Prof. Dr. Fatih Keskin, professors from various faculties of Ankara University, the First Secretary of the Embassy of the Republic of Turkiye in Bulgaria Mrs. Sumeye Jeren Ozkan, as well as some representatives of the management and academic staff of UTP.
The University of Telecommunications and Post is the oldest specialized higher school in Bulgaria. We were also the first in the country to start (in 2022) the creation of interdisciplinary educational products in partnership with other Bulgarian universities. We have such partnerships with the Higher Air Force School in Dolna Mitropolia and with the medical universities in Pleven and Plovdiv. Together with the medical universities, we train engineers in telemedicine and software design in medicine, while with VVVU “Georgi Benkovski” we have programs for training engineers in communication systems for air traffic management. All of them are valuable personnel for Industry 4.0, as there is a shortage of such specialists on the labor market in Bulgaria,” explained Prof. Temelkova during the presentation of the university to the Turkish delegation.
“I would like to greet You and thank You for the invitation. We are quite a broad university – one of the oldest in Turkiye with 19 faculties, 15 institutes, 45 research centers and 86 thousand students. Both universities have a great history and a very solid past experience. I hope that this agreement marks the beginning of a long-term and fruitful cooperation, especially in the field of artificial intelligence and biomedicine. We can co-operate in any area where telecommunications are present. In this way, we will contribute to the development of both higher schools”, said Prof. Yunyuvar at the signing of the Memorandum. He emphasized that the act of signing is only the first step, but the most important thing is that the academic staffs of the two universities have common projects and common scientific publications. Prof. Temelkova also expressed the readiness of UTP for a partnership adequate to the needs of the two universities.
All guests from Ankara University received gifts from the University of Telecommunications and Post and had the opportunity to explore the UTP museum with exhibits of telecommunication and communication equipment dating from the late 19th to the early 21st century.
